Miss Brazil made a stunning tribute to the Blessed Virgin Mary on November 19 during the during the 2025 Miss Universe National Costume Competition in Thailand.
Maria Gabriela Lacerda wore a costume emulating Our Lady of Aparecida, the patron saint of Brazil.
She explained that her decision to honor Our Lady is “external sign that reminds me of the commitment I made to Jesus through Our Lady.”
Lacerda said in a video published by costume designer Mario Cezar that she is “consecrated to Our Lady of Grace.”
“I believe that honoring the purest woman that ever walked this earth–the most beautiful and humble woman–and who teaches me so much every day of my life–to have this opportunity to be able to make this tribute to her, to my faith, I think it is the greatest accomplishment of this Miss Universe for me,” Lacerda says in the video.
Miss Universe costume designer Mario Cezar also explains how creating the dress was life-changing for him and his team.
“When Gabi first spoke about honoring Our Lady of Aparecida, I felt a shiver. It wasn’t a theme… it was a calling,” Cezar says.“Working on this project transformed me, and it transformed our team as well.”
