The late Latino singer, Selena Quintanilla is going viral on social media for her shocking stance on abortion and sex before marriage.
In a 1994 interview, the 22-year-old “Queen of Tejano Music,” explains why she opposes abortion. She also says she believes teen pregnancies could be avoided if parents focused on teaching their children to save sex for marriage.
Here’s what Selena believed about abortion and the sanctity of marriage:
“I’m against abortions. I don’t think that it’s right. Everybody’s entitled to their opinion, but the way I was raised is it’s kind of hard and and it’s very upsetting that you see people, or especially politicians, (and I don’t want to get in the subject of politics) but they encouraged uh kids to use condoms and I think the parents should encourage the children not to have sex before marriage, because if you stop that right there, then you’re not going to have teen pregnancy. You need to teach your children’s morals first before they get married and then children afterwards. It should be marriage and then children afterwards.”

The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches:
“Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception…
“Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law.” (CCC 2270-2271)
The Catholic Church also teaches that sexual relations outside of the sacrament of marriage are gravely sinful.
Fornication is carnal union between an unmarried man and an unmarried woman. It is gravely contrary to the dignity of persons and of human sexuality which is naturally ordered to the good of spouses and the generation and education of children. Moreover, it is a grave scandal when there is corruption of the young. (CCC 2353)
