Catholic NFL star and Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker appeared on CatholicVote’s “The Loop” for a sit-down interview at the Courage Under Fire Gala in Nashville, Tenn.
In this clip, the 29-year-old husband and father of three children discusses what truly matters in life: the Catholic faith and his family.
He accentuated that a career, the spotlight, and money are nothing compared to earning our reward in Heaven.
NFL Kicker Harrison Butker explains life’s primary goal in the video on Hollywood Catholic’s Instagram:
Here’s what Harrison Butker had to say:
“We don’t say, ‘I’ve accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Therefore, I’m good. I’m saved. I can go out and do whatever I want.’
“There are so many people that have been in the spotlight, they’ve been professional athletes, they’ve devoted their entire life to getting to the pinnacle of their career, and yet, thy have regrets, and they say, ‘I wish I would have been more devoted to my now ex-wife, or been more present with my children.’
“And after hearing those stories, I’m not one that has to go through those experiences to learn. My marriage and my children are more important than any money I can make.
“And when we die, and say it’s 500 years from now and no one’s going to know our resume and what we accomplish. It’s just going to say ‘Harrison Butker,’ the years that I lived, and probably father of hopefully three plus children.
“Hopefully we are great saints and people will know our stories and there will be miracles after we die. Like, that is the goal and I love the faith because we have such a high bar of what we can reach to. We’re not complacent and we don’t say, ‘I’ve accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, therefore, I’m good. I’m saved. I can go out and do whatever I want.’
“We are constantly pushing to become like Christ. Christ was perfect and obviously never sinned.
“We are all sinners, but we can continue to develop and try to be more like him.”
