Disney actor and practicing Catholic David Henrie announced new details of an upcoming film he and Mel Gibson worked on together.

The family horror film entitled, “Monster Summer,” will hit theaters on October 4 and include stars Mason Thames, Mel Gibson, and Lorraine Bracco. Henrie directed the film.

In a Just Jared exclusive, the “monstrous adventure” will arrive “just in time for Halloween.”

The story also revealed the synopsis of “Monster Summer”:

“When a mysterious force begins to disrupt their big summer fun, Noah and his friends team up with a retired police detective to embark on a monstrous adventure to save their island.”

The article also explains the “inspiration” behind the movie’s name, describing it as “that first summer you grew up”:

“It’s the summer of best friends and first kisses. It’s when you really noticed music for the first time, wore your bathing suit all day long, got up early – on purpose – and stayed gone until after dark. Friends were everything and you learned how to have an argument and it not be a fight. Lots of sugar, rode your bike a thousand miles, knew where every pool was and everyday was a new adventure. It was the summer something scary happened that made us more aware that the world was bigger and sometimes more dangerous than our neighborhood. It’s the last summer that went on forever, and the one where we realized, these summers don’t last forever.”

David Henrie published a screenshot of the Just Jared exclusive:

@monstersummermovie hitting theaters nationwide!” Henrie wrote in his Instagram post. Some of my fondest memories as a child were watching movies with my parents like The Goonies, ET, Sandlot, and Jaws. Where are those kinds of entertaining, worry free, movies for families these days? It’s my hope that this movie can be a Halloween event for families where they’ll laugh, scream and maybe even shed a tear together. It was a privilege to direct and I hope you will enjoy it!!!!
